Say the thing
Anthony Brown & group therAPy have been a choir people hire when the song needs a roof lifted. Full Disclosure, their seventh album, out September 21, is less interested in the hire and more interested in the testimony. The title is the instruction. Do not dress the hard part up.
The single
“Always Be Good” is the cut radio already has in rotation. It does the old gospel job: a promise stated plain, then a choir that will not let you leave the promise early. The rest of the record stays in that lane. This is not a crossover costume. It is Baltimore church music with a studio budget, still built for people who know when to stand up.
Play it
Start with the single, then stay for a second song before you decide it is only a radio record. Choir albums live or die on track three. If that one still has a shout in it, the album is doing its work.
