ANTHNY writes the Monday after the service on Worship Leader’s Diary

A debut album about what is left when the microphone is down: thirteen songs he wrote and produced himself, closer to a journal than a set list.

After the benediction

Most worship records stop when the last chord rings. Worship Leader’s Diary, ANTHNY’s debut, starts on the other side of that. Thirteen tracks, written and produced by him, out September 25. The question is ordinary and hard: what does the faith sound like on Monday, with no stage and no one to lead.

What the songs are doing

He has been in other people’s records for years, including songs for Tasha Cobbs Leonard and Kierra Sheard. “Mercy” was the solo moment people already knew. The album does not try to out-shout that. It sits in contemporary R&B pockets and lets the confession stay small. A diary is not a set list. Some of these tracks would be awkward in a sanctuary, which is the point. They are for the drive home.

Play it

Put it on after the room has emptied. If you only know him as a name in someone else’s credits, this is the record where the name has to carry a whole hour.
